Why are you running for office?
De Pere is a special community and we love raising our family here. I am passionate about public service and committed to seeing that De Pere continues to be a quality of life leader in Brown County. I think it’s important that we never stop looking for ways to improve our overall quality of life to make De Pere an even more desirable community to live in. Your thoughts and opinions truly matter to me as your neighbor and your Alderperson. Please contact me at shanafordepere@gmail.com or 920-333-1663. I look forward to talking with you.
What makes you the better candidate in this race?
As De Pere Clerk-Treasurer for seven years, I am knowledgeable in all aspects of City government. As a resident, I am passionate about De Pere for the same reasons you are: historic downtown, great restaurants and shops, beautiful neighborhoods and parks, and excellent schools, to name a few. I am committed to communication, community engagement, and being a voice for District One residents at the Council Level. I also hope to find new ways to engage residents in thoughtful decision making. I am easy to reach and will be responsive to your calls and emails.
What are residents telling you are their most important issues. How will you address them?
Residents are worried about new growth in downtown taking over the authentic small-town De Pere that we all love. The Cultural District Masterplan sets a vision that promotes growth while maintaining the City’s character. City Leaders need to make this plan a reality and must listen to residents, business owners and community leaders to find a balance between maintaining De Pere’s historic downtown while forwarding projects like the Mulva Cultural Center. City Leaders must proactively plan for the increase in visitors and activity by providing infrastructure and public spaces that enhance the overall visit to our beautiful downtown.
What is something positive you could say about your opponent(s)? I am happy to see four candidates running for District One Alderperson. It shows a great commitment to our community and a dedication to serving the public that is often lacking in local government races.
