2024 Budget Update:
The 2024 Budget was approved by the Common Council on November 21.
Some highlights:
- the State increased shared revenue with the City of De Pere receiving approximately $600,000
- funding to maintain city facilities and complete ongoing maintenance and repairs as needed throughout all city facilities
- additional funding to support ongoing efforts of the Beatification Committee and Definitely Pe Pere to showcase and enhance the appearance of our downtown
- additional funding for Sister Cities program, the Historical Society, and the Community Service Grant program
- an added Police Captain position to enhance the management capabilities of the police department
- an added Economic Development position to promote additional economic development and support timely assistance for economic development projects throughout the City
- various pieces of equipment including replacement of existing SUVs with hybrid SUVs to enhance fuel efficiency and performance, new salt brine equipment, a garbage truck, and a new ambulance
- funding for the construction of the Nelson Family Pavilion and ongoing improvements to various parks and recreational facilities
- continued emphasis on economic development throughout the community by including four infrastructure developer grants, downtown facade grants, and funding for cultural enhancements throughout the downtown to promote our community.
- 8.14% increase in general fund operating expenditures when compared to 2023
- a 7.1% increase in property tax levy and a 3.95% decrease in property tax mil rate, resulting in a mil rate of $5.61 (last year was $5.85)
- a 5% raise for employees
